MAY 18 – MAY 19, 2018
The Fritz Gallery is pleased to present WELCOME, a collaborative immersive dance and performance by director of Ballet Florida, Lauren Carey (Choreographer, Director), and emerging artist, Amber Tutwiler (Creative Design). WELCOME is a performance that belongs in a whole new category; taking an interdisciplinary approach, it incorporates dance, theatre, poetry, installation, and sound to create an interactive environment for guests to enter. Transforming the gallery into a stage, this experience reflects on intimacy, tension, ritual, and psychological release – all within the parameters of what we call home. Each dancer is representative of one facet of an individual, asking the question about what home means: is it simply a place of residence, or perhaps a relationship with oneself? As guests enter, they will each be given a unique experience, as dancers may choose to interact with the viewer.
LAUREN CAREY (b. 1989) is a native of West Palm Beach, Florida. She studied at Alexander W. Dreyfoos Jr. School of the Arts (2007), The Academy of Ballet Florida, Miami City Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, American Ballet Theater, The School of American Ballet, and The Paul Taylor Dance Company. She graduated from Juilliard School with a BFA (2011), and later received her MA from New York University majoring in "Teaching Dance in the Professions.” Now the Artistic Director of Ballet Florida, she is dedicated to enriching the community through her work.
AMBER TUTWILER (b. 1988) is an emerging artist originally from South Florida. She attended Alexander W. Dreyfoos School of the Arts, Massachusetts College of Art and Design, University of Miami, and most recently received her MFA in Visual Art from Florida Atlantic University (2017). Currently, she is an artist in residence at the Armory Art Center in West Palm Beach, and is an adjunct professor at Florida Atlantic University and Palm Beach State College. She has won various awards, including the Women in Visual Arts scholarship and the Williamsburg Painting Award.
WELCOME will span four showings over two nights, Friday May 18, and Saturday May 19. Showings on Friday, May 18, will be at: 6pm, 7pm, and 8pm. Saturday night will feature a late night showing at 9pm, followed by a meet and greet. There will be a $20 admission at the door, which allows guests access to any show; come early – only 30 guests are permitted into the gallery at once. Cash is preferred. The Fritz Gallery is located upstairs at 1608 S. Dixie Hwy in West Palm Beach. For more information, please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org, or email@example.com.

MAY 24, 2018
The Fritz Gallery is pleased to host POLAROID POP-UP, an event thrown by Kismet. Polaroid as an instant photography medium is a lot like the meaning of Kismet: they are both uniquely fated by chance. Before digital cameras, Polaroid film gave the average citizen access to developing film, with the privacy that automatic film offered. Whether it was used for families capturing intimate moments in their homes, or tests for high-end photography shoots, Polaroid had many applications. To this day, Polaroid continues to evoke creativity, utility, and quality.
For one night only, guests will enter the gallery and have experiences shaped by the chance happenings. Much like Warhol’s factory, one wall will be occupied by artists’ most private Polaroids; on the other, guests will get glammed up and create photo and video tests. In many ways, this is about a confrontation with the now, and a surrender to the comforts of the things we expect. As such, no cell phones will be allowed to use in the gallery. Instead, Polaroid cameras will be available; like the Russian roulette of transient moments, Polaroid captures time instantaneously – you will have to rely on this form of documentation to “capture” this event. As an outlet for experimenters and artists looking for a creative medium to manipulate, this happening asks each participant to surrender to a multitude of unpredictable results.
POLAROID POP UP will take place on one night only, Thursday, May 24, from 7-11pm. The Fritz Gallery is located upstairs at 1608 S. Dixie Hwy in West Palm Beach. For more information, please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org.
